 Achvat Israel

The Center for Progressive Judaism

Rishon Le Zion

 Who Are We?

Achvat Israel is the center for Reform Judaism in the city of Rishon Le Zion  and surrounding areas.  The center offers qualitative alternatives of practicing Judaism based on traditional values adjusted for our modern lives.  Our community has been serving in this capacity since the 1979.  Our members come from every walk of life and background in order to enjoy being Jewish in our modern days.  We believe in the equality of the genders.  Our community is one of many that is open to newcomers from the Movement for Progressive Judaism in Israel.

Our  synagogue

We hold services Sabbath evenings (Friday) 5:30 pm in the Winter and 6:00 pm in the Summer.  Sabbath mornings, 9:00 am, and all Jewish holidays.  We also hold services for significant life events:  recognition of the birth of a child, for Bar and Bat Mitzvah, the ceremony of the bride and groom’s Sabbath, ceremony of receiving the Torah for first and second grades, and ceremonies in the public schools for classes approaching their Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

Those who come to our synagogue can enjoy the Jewish family atmosphere with open and equal seating.

Bar and Bat Mitzvah ceremonies

We prepare the children in groups for the various stages of the ceremony such as becoming adults, responsibilities, Jewish and Israel Identity, etc.  The ceremony is conducted by a Rabbi or a knowledgeable member of the community.  All the family sit together and share the pleasure.  The order of prayers is explained and made clear to all.  After the ceremony here in the synagogue the family holds their own celebration.
